A few years back I brought my husband to Shanghai. I wanted to show him the city my family is originally from. And if you are married to a chef, then be prepared to eat the entire trip, multiple meals a day, all day, everyday. We dined at fancy restaurants in the evening, devoured street food during the day, and walked through alleys in between to find fun things to experience.
And one of those "fun" experiences was the discovery of a toilet themed restaurant. This was something I've read about and seen on social media. In fact themed restaurants or food stalls in Asia were all the rage at the time. Themes that featured, robots, cats, owls, hospitals, dungeons, spaceship, ninjas, ghosts, vampires, just to name a few. As we walked the alleys, we found food stalls with interesting offerings.
We actually passed on all those strange treats. We did however, feel compelled to try the toilet restaurant, largely due to my husband's sense of humor. I knew the food wasn't going to be good but at the very least we could get a few laughs out of this experience. So please enjoy our photos...I'm certain at this point, these themed restaurants are no longer in business. These gimmicks can't possibly survive but for a short a while it can be entertaining for some silly tourists:)
Upon entering the restaurant, you are welcomed by a wall of golden urinals.
On your way to the dining room, you will find various styles of toilets, bathtubs and showers.
And that concludes our trip to the Toilet Themed Restaurant. All in all, the experience was fun for a short bit. Was it worth $20, eh...probably not. I think seeing photos on the internet will suffice. So next time you walk past one of these, if they are still around...I would recommend to take a PASS.
